Hawks

Well, I have lived in Georgia my entire life and I finally made my way over to my first Hawks game last night.. To be honest the only reason I went is because I got free tickets (which I couldn't even GIVE away one of the other tickets) and I had never been, so why not..
I'm still not a basketball fan.

12.02.2008

Why is it..

.. that when you just wanna go out to dinner with a friend... NOT ONE of them answer the phone. Whats up with that. I'm so annoyed.

9.14.2008

lets hope so.

"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, thins go wrong so that you can appreciate them when they're right, you believe less so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." ~ Marilyn Monroe

That's just..

I was going through some old cds today, and one of them had this song on it. It's funny how songs will bring back memories of things that you had forgotten..
Sometimes I wish things were as easy as they were in high school...

BTW-I got that pic of a website that i just found.. suckatlife.com/ pretty cute pics.

single..

Well recently I was riding in my elevator with a guy who I talk to on a semi-regular basis (when we are in the elevator together, or pass on the street) Anyway, he told me about how his girlfriend was moving in with him this weekend. She is coming all the way from California. So you really have to love someone to up and move all the way across the country for them. I have friends that have married guys in the military and moved all over the place, Hawaii, Washington, and even Alaska.. but it just made me think, could I ever do that?

I honestly don't think I could. My family, job, my whole life is here. I cannot even fathom just picking up everything I have and moving for someone.. maybe I'm just too selfish, hence why i'm single..

8.10.2008

food..

I think its crap that the worse the food is for you, the cheaper it is..
it takes forever to make a good meal, but not long at all to eat it.. it sucks to pay a lot for a good meal, bc it all comes out the same way.. And the worst thing about cooking is then you just have to clean up!

8.06.2008

living alone..

I LOVE living alone.. but it does definitely have it's ups and downs..

Some realizations I've had:
Yep, all those dirty dishes in the sink really are mine

You can't blame the mess on anyone else

Yeah, I guess I really did eat that whole cake..

nobody to split the water/power/rent/cable/internet/phone bill.. the real kicker.

nobody to ask if the 5th outfit you tried on looks better than the 2nd..

gotta move the furniture yourself, or wait for someone willing and able to come over and help..

i am the worst finder ever. I sit stuff down and lose it. I'm SO glad my head, arms and legs are attached.. i'd be a complete mess

But on the bright side:
no body moves your stuff.. I know exactly where my stuff is--under that pile of stuff....

No body eats your food or complains about what you bought.. the salad can turn to mush and nobody complains about it

You can watch whatever you want to on TV, and not get made fun of for watching Willy Wonka for the 523rd time

You can play your jam as loud as you want on repeat for as long as you want to shake
your groove thing.. So what if journey is played out.. its still AWESOME

I can hit snooze in the morning for an hour and a half and there is no one yelling at me about it

Its great to have a dog.. Zoe always listens and NEVER talks back.

Nobody else leaves their crap laying all over the place, or eats your food, or wears your clothes without telling you

You can walk around naked in your house :)

You can get up as early as you want and not worry about waking anybody else up..

You can be as loud as you want as late as you want

you can have whoever you want over, at any time!

In the end.. I think the ups DEFINITELY outweigh the downs..

AND i also wanted to note:
I had the best roommates in the world. I couldn't have asked for any better... the bad things aren't really about roommates I've had, they are about stories I've heard about other people's roommates.. I just wanna say even though they will prob never read it, I love you LT, Katie, and Kayla. You guys couldn't have made any better roommates, especially for me.. I mean, I am an only child after all :) (but not the spoiled kind)

Don't make the same mistake I did...

So.. I learned a crappy, expensive lesson.

If you ever get laid off (God forbid) then run (yes, run as in don't walk) to the department of labor. I know what you're thinking--"oh, I'll get around to that later" or "I'll do it next week," or "maybe tomorrow.."

No, it can't wait. Regardless of what you think getting that unemployment check is a must--hello free money! I know it's not much, but its WAY better than $0. Which is basically what I got almost my WHOLE TERM of unemployment. So, I didn't know this tidbit of information that I am telling you. I know now. My sad story follows..

So, the weekend of Labor day I got laid off. Yeah, why not give someone the boot right before a holiday.. great idea. Anyway. So, I waited around for about 4 weeks before I went to file for my unemployment, like I said earlier, I thought it was retroactive. Well, I got a job my 4th week with no job... not as long of a break as I would have liked especially in summer.. but thats a whole other story.. ANYWAY... when i got the job, I was like.. man, i guess i should go file for some unemployment money while i have some spare time.. so i did, then I got hit with the -- "Your unemployment check begins from the day you file a claim" Damnit.

I hope you all never get laid off any job, but if you do. RUN to the dept. of labor. Get your free money.

But at least i got another job :)

6.18.2008

Possibly the cutest thing ever..

So I watched America's Got Talent last night and I fell in love with Kaitlyn Maher

4.17.2008

I suck..

i know.. its been forever and you prob (as a reader) feel neglected. I will try to do better..

I just had part 2 of my root canal, if that can be an excuse to the neglect of my blog...

I don't know why root canals have such a bad rep.. (I haven't got the bill yet) But really it didn't hurt as much as I was expecting. It was kind of like a really deep filling.. I have to get a crown next.. I'm thinking gold.. mike tyson can pull it off.. or can he...

bling bling.

Earth Hour

If you notice the lights go out tomorrow 3.29 at 8pm don't be alarmed. Tomorrow at 8 is EARTH HOUR.

What is that?
On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

Join people all around the world in showing that you care about our planet and want to play a part in helping to fight climate change. Don’t forget to sign up and let us know you want to join Earth Hour.

One hour, America. Earth Hour. Turn out for Earth Hour!

Tooth.

I am mourning the loss of my tooth. Number 2 to be exact. I am unsure of the exact date of passing, but I am sure it was deceased last Friday.

I had a tooth ache all last week, now I know it was my tooth, dying. Finally after I couldn't take anymore, I went to the dentist. **Side note If you know me, you know this is something that I hate more than most anything else** So, I had to have some x-rays done, and come to find out my tooth (actually only one nerve in my tooth, but what's the fun in that?) had died. AND if that's not bad enough, I now have to have a root canal.

I guess the root canal is kinda like my tooth's funeral. Its really expensive, and one it's finished it will be tucked in the back of my mouth and no one will be able to see the nice new crown it gets.

UGH.

Thanks dad for my crappy teeth.

3.15.2008

Do you have a secret?

PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard.

I read through some of them sometimes and really can't believe some of the cards, people really put themselves out there, just in a very anonymous fashion. I guess all people have skeletons in the closet.. what are yours?

The HOT List..

EAT NOW!
You don't have to be Irish to get lucky (for that, see PARTY NOW!) at Murphy's on St. Patty's Day. Celebrate Ireland's patron saint with authentic treats like finnan haddie (that's smoked cod to you, lassie), Irish soda bread and lamb stew. Pair it with a pint or two (Guinness or Harp, natch) and prepare to get jiggy with traditional Irish dancers. Save a wee bit of room for the Irish whiskey bread pudding. March 17, 5PM.
Murphy's
997 Virginia Ave.
Virginia Highland
404.872.0904

SHOP NOW!
You could drive all over town in search of the newest bling (this season, it's all about big chunky stones and quirky charms). Or, better yet, go to the jewelry trunk show at Kaleidoscope featuring more than 100 pieces from Michelle Rhodes, Candace Tracy, Chris Vigliotti and Voucou. March 15, Noon-5PM. 252 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, 404.378.1214.

PARTY NOW!
Now, back to getting lucky. The Get Lucky Festival at Park Tavern (think 5,000 party-ers) is where it's pretty much a sure thing. (Shouting "Kiss me, I'm Irish" might help, too.) Or you could just enjoy the live music (Weezer-tribute band, El Scorcho and cover band, Block Party), beats from DJ Pot O' Gold and gallons of green beer. March 15, Noon-2:30AM, $20, $30 (at door), $40 (if not wearing green; price includes T-shirt).
Park Tavern
500 10th St. NE
Midtown
404.249.0001

**Just a side note**
I may be here, but not actually inside Park Tavern.. It depends on weather. I would rather play games (cornhole(i did not make that up), throw the football, baseball, softball, etc..) than be crammed inside with the 5K party-goers..

OR..
Don your beer goggles (green, of course!) and you might think U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are playing at The Buckhead St. Patrick's Day Festival. Tribute bands, UV and Behind the Sun, are surely the next best thing! March 15, 6PM, $5 (advance), $10-$15. Andrew Square parking lot between E. Andrew Dr. and Irby Ave., Buckhead, 404.869.1132.

GET SMART NOW!
Forget about that goofy groundhog and his shadow issues. We know spring has sprung when we get a peek at some daffodils (they're not the birth flower of March for nothin'!). Feel the warming trend for yourself at the Atlanta Botanical Garden's annual Daffodil Show where hundreds of this chipper flower will be on display. Everything you always wanted to know about Narcissus (its botanical name, natch) from on-hand experts and educational seminars. March 15-16, 9AM-5PM, $12.

The List..

I was recently reading an article in some magazine, about how we optimists are always being disappointed by things. When you always look for the bright side in everything, lets face it.. you are setting yourself up for disappointment.. But that's why we should all come up with our own 'list' of things, people, places, etc.. that never disappoint.
So I figured I should prob come up with my own 'list' so that when I get disappointed, I will know where I can turn :)

.Mall-There is just something about retail therapy that never lets me down
.Orbit gum - Mint Mojito. I just love it.
.Shoes, to be specific my gray high heels, i just love them - remember, no matter how fat or skinny you get, shoes will always fit
.Zoe - She always loves me no matter what, she always listens to me, never talks back or complains, and she is always there
.80s music - no matter what, it just makes me happier
.LT - I love friends that don't take work to have, she is just so light hearted, she always can make me laugh, just love her.
.Lillie - If I ever need to talk about anything, she is there. We have the best talks ever, she prob knows WAY too much about me
.Katie - She will always be there through thick and thin and I know that..
.Running - Even thought I don't do it as much as I should, it makes me feel better about myself
.Family - they are my rock, always there for me
.Dancing by myself - Who doesn't love to boogy
.Ferrero Rocher - Oh the hazelnut goodness..
.Beach - I love the ocean.. it just amazes me.
.Stars - The thing I miss most about living in the country..

3.07.2008

so you know..

.. you go out too much where there are pics of you all over the internet..
i'll keep em coming.. they are everywhere..

Sorry.

I want to apologize on how sucky I have been at updating this blog.. I was doing so well.. then I just started sucking. I'm going to do better. I just updated my music, and am going to write tons of interesting stuff.. just be ready.

Go Live

I think the time has come.

2.21 HOT List from the Atlantan

EAT NOW!
Change is good (no, really!) at muy caliente tapas restaurant Loca Luna's new digs that ups the tropical paradise factor (waterfalls, palm trees, koi pond, live samba) while still featuring all your festive faves (ceviche, braised spare ribs, paella, mojitos). The mucho gratis parking isn't bad either. 550 Amsterdam Ave. NE, Virginia Highland, Morningside, 404.875.4494.

SHOP NOW!
There'll be no singing the blues at über-hip boutique Blue Genes' new outlet store. Instead we predict the store within a store will induce oodles of giddiness among bargain-hunting fashionistas for their big discounts on hard-to-find designer labels (think 20 to 70 percent off must-haves like Candace Ang black flats, a Hanii Y leather jacket, William Rast vintage trouser jeans) while the $25 rack (featuring a soft Harlow tee) may just become our new hangout.

Blue Genes
3400 Around Lenox Dr.
Buckhead
404.231.3400

PARTY NOW!
You could spend hours trolling MySpace to track down the next big thing in the Southeast's underground music scene (yawn) or check out The Devil Stole the Beat instead. The BMI/ASCAP grassroots showcase, now in its eighth year, brings together local on-the-verge musicians (alt-country Arum Rae and indie popsters Ski Club come to mind) and the creative types that love 'em for 16 performances over two nights. Feb. 20-22, $6, $10 for a three-day pass.
Smith's Olde Bar
1580 Piedmont Ave. NE
Midtown
404.614.0006

GET SMART NOW!
We're not sure how one develops a love for caves (obviously it doesn't involve claustrophobia) but the IMAX film, Journey Into Amazing Caves, the result of two scientists' passion for underground voids, is beautiful. Discover the joys of spelunking (that's cave exploration to you and me) at the Fernbank Museum. Through May 4, various times, $13. 767 Clifton Rd., Druid Hills, 404.929.6400.

2.13.2008

Need a cake?

Joshua John can really bake em. But they are so pretty would you really want to eat them?

Josh is obviously not trying to do business online, since his website is awful, but the few pictures he does have are gorgeous.

His cupcakes look like they are now for sale in Outwright Bookstore, which I happen to live very close to, I may just have to go try one out and see if they taste as good as they look...

Gorilla art?

Ok, seriously.

I get millions of newsletters and things but this really stands out. Apparently art has gone to a new level. Gorilla level. The two gorillas, Koko and Michael, in Cali. have begun to do their own paintings, and some genius decided to make digital reproductions (a limited number, of course) for people with WAY too much money to buy.

As if that's not enough, they also let the gorillas name the paintings.. things such as "Pink, Pink, Stink, Nice Drink" and "Stink Gorilla More." No, I'm not kidding.

This is taken straight from the newsletter, I think it's hilarious..
"Pieces run just $100-$350 (so feel free to go ape shit), with proceeds going
toward the preservation, protection, and well-being of the species.
And that’s no monkey business."

It is going toward a good cause, but as for the artwork.. get your kid to paint you something.

If you want to see for yourself, check out koko.org

Bronchitis..

is over!! The z-pack worked just as planned.. I'm almost 100% I am still coughing but its tons better.. I hate being sick.

The HOT List!

EAT NOW!
The Chinese believe we all start off fresh at the beginning of each new year. Well, wipe your slate clean with the Chinese New Year Celebration at Indochine hotspot STEEL. Celebrate the Year of the Rat with a three-course dinner (sweet and sour ribs, hoisin duck breast) and a lion dance performance to ward off bad luck. Partake in other end-of-year Chinese traditions and do some major cleaning (starting with your plate) and family visiting. Better yet, invite them and maybe they'll pick up the tab. Feb. 7-9, 7PM, $40.
STEEL Restaurant & Lounge
950 W. Peachtree St.
Midtown Plaza
404.477.6111

The rain in Spain may fall mainly on the plain but for flavorful and authentic Iberian cuisine in Atlanta (saffron-infused paella, gazpacho, plancha-grilled seafood) head to Cuerno, the nuevo spot from Riccardo Ullio. The resto's salvaged metal sculpture of Spain's four-legged iconic symbol is, um, no bull. 905 Juniper St., Midtown, 678.904.4589.

SHOP NOW!
Think Project Runway meets High School Musical (minus the hissy fits and embarrassing Polaroids) when Grady High School fashion students show off their stylish designs at LUXE Deconstructed Couture Fashion Showcase. Like what you see? The tricked-out vintage items from 11 students are up for grabs ($250), as is the gratis food and bevies from JCT Kitchen. PARTY NOW!
Just because the holiday was originally named after two Christian martyrs (and may have involved animal sacrifice!), there's no reason not to have a rollicking fun time at Valensteins 2008, Atlanta's largest Jewish Valentine's Day party. Join 500 of your closest friends (and make new ones!) as you get into the romantic spirit with Geisha House's sexy atmosphere. The specially priced cocktails and gratis apps should help. Feb. 9, 9PM-2:30AM, $15-$20.
Geisha House
1380 Atlantic Dr.
Atlantic Station
404.355.6949

GET SMART NOW!
A tale full of family scandals, gossipmongers and Southern culture (no, not the Spears' saga), Cold Sassy Tree makes its Atlanta operatic debut at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Religion, death and social taboos get the sassy treatment in this story from Georgia-native Olive Ann Burns. Feb. 7, 8 and 10, $28-$97. 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, 770.916.2800.

Bronchitis...

I'm sick.. I have bronchitis.

Acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses or bacteria and may last several days or weeks*. Acute bronchitis is characterized by cough and sputum (phlegm)** production and symptoms related to the obstruction of the airways by the inflamed airways and the phlegm, such as shortness of breath and wheezing. Diagnosis is by clinical examination and sometimes microbiological examination of the phlegm. Treatment may be with antibiotics (if a bacterial infection is suspected), bronchodilators (to relieve breathlessness) and other treatments.

I went to the doctor today and got a z-pack.. should be better in no time..

*hopefully not in my case
**mine's a nice yellowish green

growing up..

..is hard to do..

"We're adults. When did that happen? And how do we make it stop?" -Meredith, Grey's Anatomy"

For the record..

I'm having the worst week ever.

I won't go into anymore details, I will spare you.

Just know. It's bad.

You're right, it could always be worse, but it's still bad.

Is it the weekend yet?

The HOT List!

It's Thursday again, so that means I have the newest HOT List! Again, this is totally taken from the Atlantan magazine, just didn't want to take credit for their work..

In the beginning, there was fire and it was good. Then things got much better when TWO. urban licks came to town with its 14-foot-tall wood pit rotisserie. Expect it to get even hotter with chef Cameron Thompson at the helm. Be on the lookout for this two-year vet of the still-red-hot resto to work his love for creative food onto the daily changing menu (a crispy shrimp po' boy perhaps?). Stay calm: The salmon chips and pork mac 'n' cheese aren't going anywhere.

Daily Candy...

No, not the candy you're thinking.. this isn't my normal airheads or skittles, its my new favorite website, Daily Candy!

I LOVE knowing what's going on in and around the city, knowing the new restaurants and shops that are opening and what the newest hot spot is. This website seems to have it all, they have travel ideas, good deals, not to mention the cutest artwork ever.

This is a very well done website and I really just wanted to give a shoot out. I love Daily Candy.

1.29.2008

I hate today.

This morning I was supposed to have a sales demo this morning this was canceled due to one of their managers having the flu, bad day for her..

A girl was supposed to come look at my car, the celica, to see if she wanted to buy it-- she needed to reschedule..

The real kicker..

I just went to get my tag for my car.. i was one day late after the allotted 30 days.. since its new i wasn't supposed to have to pay the taxes on it, but since i was a day late.. i had to pay the whole thing, $600. I am not a happy camper.

one day cost me $600
big mistake.

Lesson learned--If you buy a new car, no matter what the dealership says, you do not have to wait on any paperwork, title or anything. Go directly to the tax office, do not pass go, do not collect $100 or else, you will have to pay them $600 for a stupid tag.

Another funny thing.. I was going to get one of those wildflower tags, but I asked how much extra that would cost, $45 initial cost, and then $25 extra a year. I was too cheap to even buy that, but then I had to pay $600 for the stupid free one! DAMNIT!

1.25.2008

Dreams

'Thunder only happens when its raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say... women... they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean... you'll know'
-Fleetwood Mac, Dreams

I was listening to the radio the other day and noticed these lyrics and they just kinda hit to be true. People can treat you so awesome to your face, but do they really feel that way, or do they just treat everyone else the same way?

Cats

For Christmas I got my parents tickets to the Fox to see Cats and Rent. Both really famous broadway shows. We went to see Cats last saturday. Well, for starters it was a toss up whether they would be able to come up here or not, bc of the weather. But they ended up making the journey to my home in Atlanta. We walked (barefoot*) in the snow (uphill both ways) to see this show, and well... it just didn't do it for me. I think I caught my dad sleeping during the first half and may have even caught myself zoning out a time or two. It was just strange, hard to follow, and kinda (dare I say) boring.

I like musicals, but I am definitely not a fan of Cats. I only hope Rent is better.

*I wasn't actually barefoot, I had on these tiny black flats (which I adore) but they don't have the best sole on them, especially not for walking around in the snow

Dirty Screen..

If you need to get your screen cleaned, click here

It really does work :)

The HOT List

I get tons of mail to junk up my inbox, but one of the millions is the HOT list by the Atlantan magazine.. I get this newsletter every Thursday and I will try to be better about posting some of the ideas it gives, that sound cool to me.. (this is my blog, by the way) So for this week..

PARTY NOW!
Happy hour gets downright giddy at Thrive's Sushi Rock Tuesday. You'll be on a roll as you grab some sushi (no sticky wings here) and $4 drink specials (a vodka Red Bull perhaps?) as you chill on one of the mod white couches or zebrawood bar stools. Jan. 22, 8PM-10PM; no cover. 101 Marietta St., Downtown; 404.389.1000.

GET SMART NOW!
We predict there'll be no snoozing going on when the Tony Award-winning spoof of old musicals, The Drowsy Chaperone, comes to town. There are '20s-era gangsters on the lam, a glamorous bride-to-be, a Latin lothario and plenty of singing in this zany marriage of music and comedy. Jan. 22-27, various times; $21-$51. 600 Peachtree St. NE, Midtown; 404.881.2100.

Enjoy!

Monster Jam..

I went to Monster Jam on Saturday, yes I'm serious--the monster truck thing. It wasn't as bad as you may think. It was redneck heaven, but there were also some normal people in attendance as well. Gravedigger, Massive Destruction, and Blue Thunder were all bigger than you can imagine. They jumped over school buses and other wrecked cars. There was more sitting around waiting for stuff to happen than I had hoped.

During freestyle, the most anticipated part of the whole show, there were WAY too many popped tires than I would have hoped. The guys couldn't destroy their trucks as much as the crowd hoped.

It was pretty entertaining, definitely different, and pretty fun. I must admit I enjoyed myself, but remember I am from the country. You can take the girl out of the country but I guess you can't take the country out of the girl.

when people try to tell me what to do.. you're not the boss of me now..

negative people..

complaining ..really, thats not going to make anything any better, but i understand sometimes you just need to vent, and I totally do both..

people who can't take a joke.. im really just not that serious of a person, lighten up!

when people talk on their cell phone when checking out ..i dont know why this bothers me

when people don't make eye contact.. and SMILE! your face won't break.. i promise!

nosy neighbors.. stay outta my business my life is not a book, you don't need to know every detail

shedding animals.. i am clean, i don't like hair all over me.. and no, my dog does not shed, she is perfect.

New Year, new memories..

Everyone makes resolutions at the beginning of each year, there is always something we can all improve on. 10 most common new years resolutions are:

1. Spend More Time with Family & Friends
2. Make more time for Fitness
3. Lose Weight
4. Quit Smoking
5. Enjoy Life More
6. Quit Drinking
7. Get Out of Debt
8. Learn Something New
9. Help Others
10. Get Organized

I must admit that some of those were on my list.
My list:
1. Use more coupons
2. Stick to my budget
3. Save some money
4. Eat healthy and eat less fast food
5. Make time to exercise
6. Vacation
7. Spend more time with family
8. Take more time for myself
9. Slow Down
10. Appreciate the small stuff more

Apparently, Family, Money, Myself, and Exercise are the key things I would like to improve on this year. I just realized this myself. I found this quote and I think it's very relevant to starting a new year.

Nothing lasts forever,
So live it up,
Drink it down,
Laugh it off,
Avoid the bullshit,
Take chances,
and Never have regrets,
Because at one point,
Everything you did
Was exactly what you wanted.

2007 was a great year, I had a lot of great times and made a lot of great memories. I am anxious to see what 2008 holds for me.

Here's to 2008!
